The North Dakota gun laws pertain to issues like possession, purchase and carrying of firearms. The State has a constitutional right to enact laws that relate to gun use, provided these enacted laws are in line with the constitutional laws. The North Dakota gun laws are, therefore, as follows.

In the United States of America, the age of majority is eighteen years. This is, therefore, the age at which a person is legally entitled to possess a firearm in the United States and ultimately in the State of North Dakota. It is, illegal to sell weapons to persons who under this age, unless the sale or transfer of possession of the gun is done, under the direct supervision of that person’s parent or legal guardian. In other words, you can lend or sell a gun to a minor only if the minor will be using that gun under supervision.

In the State of North Dakota, to be able to sell firearms; you are meant to possess a license.  The firearms that mostly require dealer license are hand guns, which are weapons, that you can hold, and, therefore, fire using only one hand. Copies of the selling license possessed by the dealer are supposed to be filed with the county sheriff’s office and the city police chief. No dealer is, therefore, entitled to sell handguns in the State of North Dakota without this license.

The North Dakota gun laws are also to the effect that, it is illegal to transfer possession of firearms to a person who is prohibited from possessing them.  Such persons include the insane, the convicted felons and habitual drug users among others. In addition, even mere transfer of ammunition to such persons is prohibited and is punishable under the law.

In the State, it is also illegal to transfer hand guns, and other firearms to persons who you suspect are likely to use the weapons for illegal purposes. Therefore, upon suspecting that this might happen, you should not transfer possession of weapons to such persons.

Possession of a 26 inch barrel rifle is prohibited in the State of North Dakota. The only persons entitled to possess such firearms are law enforcement officers and members of the armed forces.

It is also illegal to possess firearms in public, except for law enforcement officers in the State of North Dakota. Therefore, you are not supposed to have weapons in places like bars, police stations, theatres, parks and schools among others. Possession of weapons in public is only accepted for competitive shooting games while using blank cartridges and during school hunting classes.

It is illegal to carry a concealed weapon in the North Dakota State. You can only carry a concealed weapon if you have a valid license to do so.

It is, therefore, noted that, the gun laws of the State of North Dakota are fairly restrictive. This is to ensure the protection of citizens against gun related crimes.
